Peg
Paul is president of Peg Paul & Associates, and she has been the
communications manager for the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition since 1997. She
has worked with HFSC’s steering committee to develop the following
brochures:“Protect What You Value Most” (to educate consumers),“Built for Life”
(for members of the home building industry) and “Living with Sprinklers” (for
people who live in homes protected with fire sprinklers). Paul has more than 20
years experience in the marketing/communications industry, including a strong
involvement with consumer information and safety awareness programs. Her
introduction to fire safety was on behalf of the water heater industry in 1992
when she developed and implemented a multi-million dollar consumer information
and education program to prevent burn injuries and death caused by flammable
vapor ignition and excessively hot tap water. Since then she has worked on
issues related to carbon monoxide poisoning, propane safety, electrical safety
and childhood injury prevention.
A national survey commissioned by the Society of Fire
Protection Engineers and conducted in January 2008 by Synovate reveals that 79%
of Americans feel safer from fires at home than in a public building. Yet statistics show that the fire problem in the U.S. is
overwhelmingly a home fire problem.
