Engineers need certain creative skills to make sense of what they design, and also to communicate their concepts to clients.
Whenever some engineering calamity occurs (bridge collapse, Hyatt Regency skywalks collapse, too hot/cold in the house), my response has always been that "engineering is not an exact science."
