Richard Flynn, corporate scientist with 3M Industrial Business Laboratory, received the 2004 Tekne Leadership Award for his contribution to Minnesota's technology expansion. Flynn is the inventor or co-inventor of many of 3M's key engineered fluid patents of the last 10 years, including hydrofluoroethers, and the perfluoroketone family used as a new clean extinguishing agent for firefighting, commercialized as 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid.
