Here are some recent industry happenings for August.

  • Jim Bjork, executive vice president of Uponor North America (formerly Wirsbo), has announced his resignation to pursue other interests. Bjork has served Uponor in a variety of management positions since joining the company in 1990, and has been instrumental in building the company's radiant floor heating and plumbing businesses in the U.S. and Canada. Bjork will continue to perform his duties until the end of August, when a successor is expected to be named.

    The company also hosted its largest Home Comfort Team Convention (HCT) ever on April 27-29 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Approximately 250 contractors from 33 different states and the District of Columbia attended the 2006 HCT Convention, the fourth such gathering, which is held every two years. The event featured an intensive day and a half of attendee roundtable discussions, formal workshops and a trade show.

  • Hodes Co. announced the opening of its new North East Regional Distribution (N.E.R.D.) Center, located in the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area. Combined with its Kansas City location, the Hodes Co. now has the ability to deliver the majority of its customers' orders within one or two days when placed before 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.).
