Brisk air with crystal blue skies are the best days of winter. May the winter weather bring you time to enjoy a hot chocolate or your hot beverage of choice with friends and family. Cheers!

February is a great time to review the end-of-year 2023 activities of Standards Development Organizations, or SDOS. These organizations develop standards through voluntary consensus processes for product performance and safety, services, processes, systems, and personnel.

Energy, water systems, refrigerants and product standards finished out 2023 with a flurry of activity, so I've curated lists for you that piqued my interest in these areas:

  1. New, revised, or reaffirmed standards;
  2. Standards in development, under revision or pending reaffirmation; and
  3. Withdrawn standards.

To review the standards activities from early 2023, I invite you to review my June 2023 column, Summer Standards Activity. Call me at Regulosity for more information on fire, pipe, explosive atmospheres and chemical standards activities, which are not included in this article.

Scroll through the individual charts below to access additional data.

What can you do?

It's best to keep track of standards activities through standards action newsletters from ANSI or ASHRAE or monthly newsletters, such as IAPMO's Codes and Standards Newsletter, which are excellent sources of information. While I recommend that you personally monitor standards activities, you may choose to request updates through your trade association.
