Mueller Associates was recently selected by the University of Maryland, Baltimore and Coppin State University to provide design and construction administration for Coppin State's new Utility Infrastructure Upgrade Project, for which services are scheduled to begin this spring. Mueller Associates will serve as prime designer, with a consulting team that includes Design Collective for architectural services; ReStl Designers, Inc. for structural engineering; Site Resources, Inc. for civil engineering; SpeXsys, LLC. for security engineering; and DMS International, Inc. for cost estimating.

The project scope consists of two major renovations to the urban university, located on 38 acres in northwest Baltimore. The project will double the existing chilled water plant capacity and replace the campus's aging hot water boilers. The chilled and hot water systems will be located in the existing plant and include additional floor space. The utilities will be distributed to the existing buildings in the middle campus area by underground piping. The project will also include the replacement of underground existing sanitary and cold water mains.

The second portion of the project involves upgrading the fire alarm system campus-wide and adding security systems to the existing 11 buildings. The project budget is $7,850,000.
