The Plumbing Manufacturers Institute (PMI) recognized Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) as its PMI Legislator of the Year at its Fall 2004 meeting in Washington, D.C. As a leader on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Senator Bond played a critical role over the past summer in supporting sensible alternatives to addressing Washington, D.C.'s drinking water issues, and in stopping the "Lead Free Drinking Water Act of 2004," proposing sweeping reform of the Safe Water Drinking Act. The bill, which PMI opposes, would have made it illegal as of Jan. 1, 2005, for all plumbing products to contain more than 0.2% lead.
