Shane Brant

AGE: 33

COMPANY: ALLEN + SHARIFF CORP.

TITLE: PLUMBING DEPARTMENT HEAD (PLUMBING AND FIRE PROTECTION DESIGNER)

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

SB: This year was the 10th year that I have been working in this industry.

What drew you into the industry?

SB: I started as a drafter at Allen + Shariff, completing mark-ups that the designers would hand off for assistance. I liked how it was almost like a jigsaw puzzle trying to figure out how the systems worked and how they were installed. Allen + Shariff also had a great group of designers that were more than happy to teach me the ropes.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

SB: I would say the most rewarding aspect would be solving a problem and earning the respect of an owner/client. This can lead to repeat work from that client, which is always a good thing!

What motivates you every day?

SB: My son and wife motivate me every day, especially on the toughest days. They are always there to support me unconditionally. Also, working with a great group of people at my office definitely makes things easier.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

SB: It is not always easy or the best practice to hide plumbing. I wish more people would understand the consequences of concealing pipes/plumbing equipment that should be accessible. I am starting to see this more and more on projects.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

SB: Definitely working hard and earning the respect of my supervisors at Allen + Shariff to become the Plumbing Department Head in our Pittsburgh office.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

SB: I am a big racing fan. I have a racing simulator at home that I race on Gran Turismo 7 and Assetto Corsa Competizione. I just recently purchased virtual reality for my gaming set up and I am having a blast. I also have a set up for my son when he becomes interested in racing.
