A draft of NFPA 5000, the first building code to be developed using the ANSI open consensus process is being released.

NFPA's Building Code Technical Correlating Committee has voted to release the draft of NFPA 5000, the first building code to be developed using the ANSI open consensus process. All interested parties may review and provide input to the draft code via the Internet at www.buildingcode.nfpa.org or by contacting NFPA's Codes and Standards Administration Office at (617) 984-7246. Publication of the draft code presents the first opportunity for interested parties to provide input on and participate in the development of NFPA 5000. When finalized, the NFPA Building CodeT will round out NFPA's Consensus CodesT-a full set of codes for the built environment.

Public proposals for changes to the draft must be received by NFPA no later than 5:00 p.m. EST/EDST on Nov. 9, 2000. There will be more opportunities to provide input on the codes throughout the development process, which will continue through May 2002, when the document will be up for vote by the NFPA membership.
