As of Jan. 1, 2018, Austin, Texas-based EEA Consulting Engineers will be led by Todd Schmitt, the company’s current vice president. Founder and current President Mike Hart is retiring after 40 years to focus on his responsibilities as chairman of the board.

EEA is an employee-owned firm licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia for plumbing, mechanical and electrical design services.

“I am pleased Todd has embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm,” Hart said. “The board of directors formed a sub-committee to search for the next president 18 months ago, and I am grateful for the directors’ thoughtful guidance and encouragement. My primary role in the future as chairman of the board will be strategic planning and special projects where my technical expertise or personal contacts have high leverage. My hope is to mentor younger engineers in energy efficiency topics and business leadership.”

Schmitt added: “I am excited about this new opportunity. I look forward to continuing the example Mike has set for leadership with integrity and empowering employees to do their best. I believe the combination of employee ownership and new leadership from within will serve as a solid foundation for EEA’s continued success.”
