On December 19th, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (http://www.epa.gov/ EPA) released the “Draft WaterSense Specification for Flushometer-Valve Water Closets,” which was written to ensure that flushometer-valve toilets that earn the WaterSense label in the future are water-efficient while still performing at high levels.
The EPA proposes a maximum flush volume of 1.28 gpf for both single- and dual-flush flushometer-valve toilets. In the future, replacing one old, inefficient flushometer-valve toilet with a WaterSense-labeled model may save more than 5,400 gal. per year, according to the EPA.
