IAPMO and the Solar Keymark Network have entered into a memorandum of understanding to collaborate toward the goal of a global program for solar heating products.

The MOU outlines many areas in which the groups will work together. They include:

  • Pursue the harmonization of certification programs and procedures by actively participating in the IEA Task 43 Extension Global Certification activities.
  • Pursue the mutual acceptance of certifications by accredited certification bodies in all geographic areas; and
  • Promote solar thermal product certification through consensus-based standards by including requirements for solar products certified by accredited bodies in regional and national regulations and incentive programs.

In other IAPMO news, group board member David Gans, a senior building inspector for Oceanside, Calif., was named Instructor of the Year by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors Association at its Connect 2013 annual business meeting in Las Vegas.

Gans has taught with PHCC for five years and is the director of the PHCC San Diego chapter’s apprenticeship program and is a Year-Four instructor.
