Residents of Puerto Rico will soon be protected by the most up-to-date editions of two key NFPA safety codes. The 2003 editions of NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code™ (UFC), and NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®, have been adopted by the island and will be effective later this year.
The codes, which are widely used across the United States, will protect residents of Puerto Rico and their property in new and existing buildings. NFPA's Life Safety Code mandates that building design construction, operation and maintenance requirements protect building occupants from the dangers caused by fire, smoke and toxic fumes.
