A new version of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, called LEED 2009, will debut in January and change its certification process for green buildings, reports the USGBC. Since the program was introduced in 2000, more than 1,500 buildings have received LEED certification, and more than 11,000 are seeking certification. USGBC spokeswoman Ashley Katz says that points will be allocated differently and reweighed, and the entire process will be flexible to adapt to changing technology, account for regional differences and encourage innovation.
