The 2002 Fall Education Conference of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) will take place from November 16-20 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. More than 40 hands-on career development seminars, featuring the latest technologies designed for fire protection and life safety professionals, will be presented.

In other news, the U.S. Dept. of Defense (DOD) will use a number of NFPA codes in its recently approved Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) system, which provides planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance criteria for DOD facilities. The new document, UFC 1-200-01, Design: General Building Requirements, applies private-sector safety codes and standards for military use and utilizes the following NFPA codes: NFPA 70, National Electrical Code; NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code; and NFPA 101, Life Safety Code. The DOD has also selected the International Building Code (IBC) developed by ICC as a primary reference in the UFC.
