Underwriters Laboratories has introduced certification services for manufacturers of generic ingredients, materials and finished products used in plastic piping systems. Evaluations are in accordance with ANSI/NSF Standard 14, Plastics Piping System Components and Related Materials.

To indicate compliance, generic ingredients and materials are recognized under UL's Component Recognition and Follow-Up Service programs and identified by the Recognized Mark. The Mark consists of the manufacturer's product designation, corresponding with the marking specified in UL's published records. Such manufacturers may use the Recognized Component Mark, and manufacturers of finished plastic products may use a UL Listing Mark.
