The 2004 H. R. Russ Ogden Award was given to David L. Douglass, Ph.D., a professor emeritus, University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), and a research professor at the University of Arizona, who lives in Tucson, AZ. ASTM Committee B10 on Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys honored Douglass for his outstanding accomplishments in the science and technology of reactive and refractory metals and alloys.

Douglass, a fellow of the American Society for Metals, taught courses in materials science, metals, reactions, and corrosion at UCLA. In his career, he concentrated on high-temperature corrosion and physical metallurgy.
