PMEand its sister publication,Plumbing & Mechanical, along with 11 other trade magazines owned byPME's parent company, BNP Media, have made a collective donation to become a full sponsor in the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in Detroit this summer. The home will be one of 30 residences built in Detroit as part of a long-term plan to develop several hundred homes in several of the city's neighborhoods.
The effort is part of a larger Habitat program led by former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalyn. Since 1984, the couple has spent one week in different cities and states around the United States building homes and raising awareness for Habitat's mission of affordable housing.
This year, the Jimmy Carter Work Project will construct 225 new homes in 70 communities in every county throughout Michigan between June 17-24.
Habitat is seeking construction professionals who can help lead teams on the various Michigan worksites. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Habitat's Detroit office at (313) 521-6691. Manufacturers interested in donating products for this and other Habitat projects should contact Karen Haycox at (800) 467-5430, ext. 112.
In related news, Habitat has also made provisions for 10% of all donations to the Jimmy Carter Work Project to help provide shelter to survivors of Dec. 2004's tsunami that destroyed many Southeast Asian communities.
