The company operating the wastewater treatment plant in St. Johnsbury was recognized for its commitment to safety excellence by the Vermont Occupational Health and Safety Administration (VOSHA) during a ceremony at the facility.

Earth Tech, Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd, and a global provider of consulting, engineering, construction and operations services, is the first business operating in the state to receive VOSHA's Green Mountain Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) "Star" status, the highest level possible. VPP recognizes businesses and worksites that show excellence in occupational safety and health. The recognition is also the first of its kind for Earth Tech, which has operated the St. Johnsbury facility since 1990.

In order to qualify for the Star status, the Earth Tech team at the St. Johnsbury site developed and implemented a comprehensive health and safety management system and achieved injury and illness rates at or below the national industry average.
