The North American fire alarm markets have seen many larger international companies adopt mergers and acquisitions as a key strategy to increase their market share and to have a better control on influencing many aspects of the business.
Although Edwards Canada is slightly smaller than these companies, it has also successfully implemented a strategy of going beyond the fire and have acquired related businesses to offer the ease of addressing all their needs for building safety systems to its customers under a single roof. Bundling of services is what attracts the customers, and since sprinklers and fire alarm systems coexist in commercial buildings it makes sense for customers to opt for companies that can offer maintenance services for both.
In line with this trend, Edwards Canada has also acquired related businesses that fit into its distribution and service models. These acquisitions have added nurse call systems, personal identification products, sprinklers, emergency lighting, sprinkler systems to the fire alarm product and service offerings of the company. Because of this, Edwards has 50% of the fire alarm industry market share in Canada.
The 2004 Frost & Sullivan Growth Strategy Leadership Award has also been presented to Edwards, a Division of SPX Canada, the largest fire and life safety company in Canada.
