A thermal soil treatment project supported by Earth Tech Inc., a business unit of Tyco International Ltd, and a global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has been recognized with a 2004 U.S. Chief of Naval Operations award for its role in restoring the environment in Hawaii. Earth Tech was part of a team with the U.S. Navy, federal and state regulators, and another remedial action contractor that completed the thermal soil treatment project.

Earth Tech, working with subcontractor Tetra Tech EM Inc., provided essential support to the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Pacific (NAVFAC Pacific) to treat soil in Kapolei, Oahu. In response to the concerns of local residents, Earth Tech provided environmental and construction engineering services to support a remediation process that minimized the amount of visible smoke and air emissions produced by the system.

The prestigious award is one of 28 that was presented to Navy individuals, teams, ships, and installations in recognition of their "exceptional environmental stewardship."
