The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) recently held the second and final set of Technical Committee (TC) Meetings that will culminate in the publishing of the 2006 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC). The Plumbing Technical Committee convened from May 2-4, while the Mechanical Technical Committee met on May 5, 2005.
Much of the discussions centered on proposed standards changes, which were submitted by anyone who wished to voice an opinion on an issue. Among the many decisions made, the UMC TC voted to accept two compromised comments on using unvented heaters and on allowing furnaces in closets. "Important restrictions were kept, but these compromises allow us to remain in harmony with NFPA 54,"
