Baltimore-based Mueller Associates designed the new mechanical/electrical systems as part of the comprehensive renovation of the Walters Art Museum's Centre Street Building, a 1974 building addition. The museum is expected to realize savings of close to $80,000 annually in energy and operating costs, largely through a conversion from constant to variable air volume, the installation of a new condenser water-free cooling system, more efficient equipment, and improved control systems. The $24-million renovation included a detailed assessment of the mechanical/electrical and plumbing/fire protection systems.
