IAPMO has received the results of its Application for Accreditation under the Organization Method as a developer of American National Standards. The ANSI Executive Standards Council informed IAPMO that it approved the association's accreditation application. The procedures accredited by ANSI contemplate the continued involvement of the NFPA Standards Council in the development process of the Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code.

As an accredited standards developer under the Organization Method, IAPMO is now poised to develop the UPC and UMC as American National Standards. These codes will become part of the 2003 Consensus Code Set, the first set of consensus codes being developed by IAPMO and its industry partners, the National Fire Protection Association and the Western Fire Chief Association.
