Danfoss recently sponsored its third EnVisioneeringSM Symposium in Washington, D.C, headlined by U.S. Senator Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.), a long-time advocate for energy independence. Held Dec. 4, the symposium was organized by Global Strategy Initiative, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm. John Galyen, president of Danfoss Refrigeration & Air Conditioning North America, was the host.

Lugar is one of the leading energy change agents on Capitol Hill.  According to his Web site, “Energy security impacts every aspect of life in the United States, from the cars we drive and how much we pay at the gas pump to our vulnerability to foreign terrorism and our relationships with other countries.”

In addition to Lugar, the symposium featured Peter R. Smith, president of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and senior officials from the U.S. Departments of State, Defense and Energy as well as the Environmental Protection Agency.

The symposium addressed many key questions, including:
  • How do U.S. policy makers and energy strategists see the challenge, and how do they plan to address it?
  • Where are the greatest risks and the genuine opportunities?
  • Can developed and developing markets find common ground?
  • What changes in our science, technology, market dynamics and way of doing business should be sought or expected?
  • How can HVAC&R manufacturers respond to these issues?

The Dec. 4 symposium was the third in a series of conferences that make up the EnVisioneeringSM Symposium series.  The inaugural conference, held at the Kansas City Public Library, focused on how energy challenges of the 21st century are transforming business strategy and the conditions of American international policy.  The second symposium, held at the Chicago O’Hare Hilton, addressed the role of states in developing effective energy policy.

In January 2007, at the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigerating Expo in Dallas, Danfoss will release a comprehensive industry report, detailing the discussions and ideas set forth during the conferences.  For more information about the Washington EnVisioneeringSM Symposium, visit:http://www.envisioneering.danfoss.com/symposium
