News In Brief

Fifth Edition of idronics Journal Now Availableidronics
The January 2009 edition of idronics , Caleffi's semi-annual design journal for hydronic professionals, has been released. The issue focuses on Zoning Hydronic Systems. Zoning is a preeminent benefit of hydronic heating and cooling. When properly applied, it provides unsurpassed comfort control, flexibility and energy conservation. These principles are discussed then demonstrated in a wide variety of application drawings based on the latest hardware and design techniques. The goal is to facilitate zoned hydronic systems that are flexible, reliable, highly energy efficient and simple to build.

IAPMO Standards Council Approves Amendment to '09 UPC
The IAPMO Standards Council recently approved Tentative Interim Amendment UPC-001-09 to the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC). This decision results in the removal of text from Section 211.0 regarding the definition of "insanitary" and the addition of an exception to Section 405.2 regarding prohibited urinals in the 2009 UPC . Stricken from the list of conditions in Section 211.0 to which "insanitary" shall apply is "Any plumbing fixture or other waste discharging receptor or device that is not supplied with water sufficient to flush and maintain the fixture or receptor in a clean condition." The exception for non-water urinals was added to Section 405.2, Prohibited Urinals, because non-water urinals do not have a visible seal as described in this section, therefore an exception was added to correlate language.
