In an unprecedented decision, the state of Hawaii has adopted the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code as its first statewide plumbing code.

Senate Bill 795 requires that “[t]he latest edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code, as copyrighted and published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, including the appendices” be established as part of the state building code applicable to all construction in the state of Hawaii.

SB 795 goes into effect July 1, 2007, and the state’s Building Code Council is mandated to adopt and amend the most recent editions of the code within one year of the effective date.
